MUBI ideas - D&AD - Developed Digital ideas - experimentation

After experimenting with the images looking at half tones, adding grain and also darkening, I applied the type content, choosing to use Helvetica Bold (One of MUBI's requirements for the brief) and following a grid system which sees the type facing each other on either side of the page, this is influenced by the poster research undertaken. The quotes were taken from the movies which the image is from, these were found through research, I wanted to find a quote that could be used to market MUBI, the best example of this is on the poster for 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', using a line from the lead character (image) "Don't make a bit of sense to me" and responding to it as if the quote is talking about MUBI, replying with a fact or selling point and a witty remark, "Unforgettable film for £4.99 a month. Perfect sense". Other examples can be seen above, and all use the same techniques, this concept is influenced by the research into rival online streaming services, how they use wit or humour to sell a tv series or film which is on the site.

Adding in the required elements which were given in the brief, placing them at the bottom, this is to keep focus on the main aspects of the poster which is the imagery and large type which is trying to sell MUBI to the target audience. Though the focus is on the larger parts of the poster the small footnote type and MUBI logo remain clear and prominent, the other aspects would grab the attention and the bottom type would be seen as a secondary. To make this bottom type clear and in focus I have added a small shadow drop which helps the type stand out more whilst sitting on the image.

The green block which the type sits within is put in not only to make the type clearer upon the image but also adds an element which MUBI wanted featured in the project, the green is taken from their branding, and placed on 50% opacity, so the image can still be seen and the type is brought out more. This also acts a joiner to the other posters they can work in a set placed next to one and other creating a long green continuous line of posters which sit easily together, and also has a recognisable brand element being achieved.
