Collaborative - FInal Designs

We aim to deconstruct and re-design the rules of Graphic Design that we are encouraged to take 

reference from as students in the creative field. This is aimed to be achieved by manipulating and bending the restrictions of ‘good design’ within type, layout and colour formed by respected 

designers. We aim to inspire and offer an alternative to what the correct forms of design are and can be, encouraging students to create a new revolutionary way thinking through experimentation and expressionism when approaching design.

From our own experience, typography is a great tool to the designer, as a communicator and 

expressionist. Vignelli’s rules can be broken to open another world for uses of type as 

decorative and aesthetic pleasures. Through our use of photography of letterpress we capture the historic and analogue beauty which has been manipulated through contemporary techniques and decoration to become an engaging, eye catching and expression of our own experience as artists and designers.

As a group of designers who use analogue, we wanted to highlight the tools and machinery we use and rely on. Within this poster we have highlighted the screen print bed, a tool which we use regularly and plays a role in our style of design. The image has been edited down to its frame so that it can be screen-printed itself, thereby creating a new way of interpretation from its initial meaning. This has been combined with illustration and type to form our interpretation of the ‘Rules of Design’
