Unethical Companies
(ADBUSTERS)

Goldman Sachs - Banking - Focusses on rich bankers pocketing huge bonuses at the expense of the tax payers

Phillip Morris - Cigarettes - Huge corporation owning Marlboro and many other Tobacco brands, paid CEO 24 million, a man who's time as CEO of Philip Morris has seen over 30 million cigarette related deaths.

British Petroleum - Oil Company - Guilty of Ecocide

ExxoMobil - Oil Company - Guilty of opposing climate change with lies and bribes to top government officials

Kalle Lasn - Adbusters - Future Of Design talk-

Where do we as designers fit into the world? Designers are very powerful as we are the people who can make the trends, create the look and the feeling of different mediums, Lasn believes designers are creators of the medium and have the power to change the world, this power makes designers responsible and have the responsibility to not use design to mislead or lie, designers, are faced with ethical decisions. Lasn says that modernism was born out of fear and has had a negative effect on the world, especially as a design aspect. Lasn has issues with art schools and saying that western art students are taught how to serve clients well and taught how to kiss corporate arse (quoting Jeffrey Kealey)

Kathryn McCoy - "Designers are like prostitutes, practitioners of the so-called oldest profession in the world who must maintain an extreme of cool objectivity about the most intimate of human activity disciplining their personal responses to deliver an impartial and consistent product to clients.

Darren Cullen is a satirical artist, illustrator and writer, born in Leeds to Irish parents and currently based in London. Cullen initially thought he to go into advertising as a career, studying it at Leeds College of Art where he learned the language and techniques of the medium but became steadily horrified at the ethical implications involved. Claiming that “manipulating the desires and aspirations of the public, and especially children, using an arsenal of sophisticated and emotionally damaging psychological techniques is an appalling way to make a living and an even worse way to sustain an economy.”

The British government refuses to rule out first-use of nuclear weapons and has stated it may use them even if its ‘vital interests’ are threatened.
Due to NATO membership and our alleged Special Relationship, we’re also committed to a nuclear suicide pact with America.
The posters point budding recruits to a website which demonstrates how the crew of a nuclear submarine must be prepared to destroy human civilisation on command.

CND

Since 2001, CND has opposed the US's so-called 'war on terror' and backed solutions to conflict and complex problems based on dialogue and justice. CND's Annual Conference took place just a few days after the terrible atrocities of September 11th and the conference was overwhelmingly united in condemning the terrorism, but also in condemning state terrorism. CND's view was that the criminals who perpetrated the crime should be brought to justice, but we completely opposed plans to launch a Nato-led military attack on Afghanistan in response. The deaths of thousands of innocent Afghani civilians have not been a just response and neither they nor the continuing war on that country have provided a solution to any problem facing Afghanistan or the wider international community.

Trident

The Trident nuclear programme, AKA the Trident nuclear deterrent, covers the development, procurement and operation of the current generation of United Kingdom nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. Many Campaign groups are against Trident, including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and Trident Ploughshares. In 2006, a year-long protest at Trident's base at Faslane, named Faslane 365, aimed to blockade the base every day for a year. By 26 January 2007, 50 groups had taken part in blockades, leading to 474 arrests.

Trident Ploughshares

Trident Ploughshares is a part of the international nuclear disarmament movement. Trident Ploughshares activists have pledged to disarm the UK Trident nuclear weapons system in a non-violent, open, peaceful, safe and fully accountable manner. At this time over 200 Trident Ploughshares activists have signed a pledge to prevent nuclear crime. Ploughshares actions are made by people committed to peace and disarmament and who nonviolently, safely, openly and accountably disable a war machine or system so that it can no longer harm people.
