way finding design finals

I created a full set of signage for the Exhibition currently being held at the Leeds City Gallery, I continued with the use of the orange which is the colour of the exhibitions original logo,the orange makes the logo clear and different from the building signage which I have made, the signage I have included is as follows;
  • Names of key artists who have work in the exhibition.
  • The title of the exhibition.
  • Todays events.
  • No photography
  • Workshop
  • Digital Piece
  • More Upstairs
I wanted to use some artists names within the signage to show the main pieces within the exhibition and help people to find specific artists which they want to. I have also used No Photography as a signage as throughout the gallery it is not clear and the staff have to repeatedly reinforce this message. I have used things such as 'workshop', 'Digital piece' and 'Todays events' to show the small things which would be happening around the exhibition such as talks and classes with some of the artists. I have chosen to keep these signs just type to keep them clear and bold. Though some would work well with pictograms beside the type, the simpler I keep these the clearer and easily they will sit with the work within the exhibit.

I created a wider range of signs for the actual building directions, these would work separately to the exhibition signs and would direct you around the building regardless of what exhibition is on. I used type alongside larger images, though different from the exhibition signage I kept the arrow head shape and the type the same to create a consistency a recognisable style throughout the gallery. I created small pictograms all following the same style to accompany the type within the arrow. I Included all the aspects of the building which are important and constant within the building such as;
  • Toilets (Along with Pictograms)
  • Lift (Pictograms)
  • Cafe (pictogram)
  • Library (Pictogram)
  • Stairs (Pictogram)
  • Fire Exit (Pictogram)
  • No Photography (Pictogram)
  • Ground Floor (Larger G to represent)
  • First Floor (Large 1)
  • Second Floor (Large 2)
  • Lower Ground (LG)
  • Henry Moore Institute (Logo)
I Focussed on signs which could be used not just in leeds art gallery but also a number of other Leeds City Council buildings, the colours are relevant and the type and pictograms are clear and easily recognised.

I created a set of pictograms which were simple and clear to be recognised. I kept them as similar as I could. I used the sam characteristics on each of my human pictograms with the triangular body to represent, the fire exit, toilet and lift. I asked my peers on what they thought about these pictograms and said that the recognisability of each pictogram is simple and well thought out, thoroughly looked at.
