studio brief 2 - leaflet ideas

Having looked at different styles of leaflet folding techniques I started to develop ideas and mock ups of leaflet folds which I could use. Initially I want to produce a small hand held leaflet which can easily be carried by children, it needs to be a nice small size yet still be eye catching a nice looking.

This small square style is 100mm x 100mm, it is a good pocket size which consists of around 8 small pages, 1 front cover, 1 back and the contents includes a page for each letter of the acronym 'SPLINK!'. One main aspect of this is it will have a slight fold over flap on the front which will bear the title to the small pamphlet.

The same measurements and page set up as the design above, yet without the front page flap, it will just be a simple square held together by either staples or a small stitch which is safer than a small metal staple, especially keeping in mind the audience and carrier of the pamphlet.

I tried an even smaller design (750mm x 750mm) to test how it would look, it was a nice small design which children could enjoy yet I feel the information may get lost within the small design as it would have to be small enough to fit in the page. I shall have to test out these measurements with the design on them.

I attempted a more rectangular style of design, keeping it small again but wider to fit more information on a page. It could be a bit floppy if I use the wrong stock as it is heavy on one side. This style might lose some of the imagery within the pamphlet.

This design is a small book form, a6 size which reads like the rest just like a small book, I will start of planning the contents of the small publication on this style of fold. This is an average easy uncomplicated fold, easy design which children and adults alike will find simple.

I attempted a small different style with a new shape which would be appealing to a young audience yet I thought I was over complicating the design and the shape held little relevance to the content of the leaflet, I thought keeping the leaflet simple was a better idea and is less playful than this design which is good as the content is meant to have a level of seriousness to it.

I have this small note book which is 145mm x 100 and the size is nice for pocket and hand held design. The full colour cover with the black type and imagery is a great style and has similarities to other pamphlets I research, it has influenced me to produce a similar style.
