OUGD603 - Anniversaries - Audience research and background

Strelka Foundation - Strelka is a non-governmental institute with an experimental approach, offering a multidisciplinary academic programme. Student research and design at Strelka is always focused on the City, but the research tools used can be adopted from various disciplines, including sociology, economics, architecture, political and cultural studies.

The publication and supporting materials are published under the Strelka institute name as to give it credibility and give it an educational organisation background, this raises the level of professionalism of the design.

The publication is an educational publication, linking it to one of Russias most contemporary and innovative educational institutes, helps to focus details of the publication. For example the content is targetted at russian audiences (the home nation of the subject focus) this means that it must be legible and credible Russian Translations but will offer English translations (this will be split on each page to make it easily read in either language).

Looking at the current branding for Strelka Press publications I looked at the way they used colour, colour will be a big feature of the designs as it is a main focus of Olga Rozanovas work. The Design studio behind Strelkas branding and visual identity is OK-RM.

Strelka release these perfect bound publications written by various artists and members of the institute. The tone of voice is playful colourful and unique. The publication needed to stand out from these pre-exisisting Strelka publications. The aesthetic had to be more modern and stand out, looking at publications and materials currently on the market in general I found that a thick perfect bound publications are more in keeping with the aesthetic and tone of voice than a small longer book.

The research into these topics helped influence the design elements such as language, colours and production, realising that a polished, pefect bound design would give the impression of a professional, educational, exhibition piece.
