messages on blogs in the lead up to the release. The album was experimental and was alot more instrumental and deeper than there previous works, with the album being a look into the bands soul as the lead single of the album says “As I walked into the Haze”

The second Extended play by Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys. The EP was made up of five tracks, some which were later used on there debut LP ‘Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I’m Not’.The theme of the EP focusses on observations of behaviour in local night life. Lead singer Alex Turner comments on the expectation that an evening that will be enjoyable will end in disappointment. The debut album from Hull based 80’s rock band The Housemartins. The album title refers to lead singer refering to them being the fourth best band in Hull while London have non and the fact that at the time Hull City FC beat West Ham Utd 4-0. The albums tone and lyrics reflects lead singer, Paul Heatons, interests into Christianity and Marxism at the time of recording. The back of the record reads ‘Take Jesus - Take Marx - Take Hope’.

The first compilation album for American rock star Jimi Hendrix and his band. It was released a year after the bands second album and whilst they were working on their third. There were different versions of the record with a UK and a US version, both featuring different songs depending on the fame in either country. Though there was uncertainty of the popularity of the bands music moving into the 70’s, as Hendrix sang “Don’t know if i’m comin’ up or down”

The Second and last
studio album from
Manchester Joy Division. It was recorded march 1980 and released in july of that year, just months before the release, lyricist and lead singer Ian Curtis took his own life. Closer has been hailed as the bands finest works, with poetic deep lyrics and gothic rock sounds, it delves deep in to the tormented mind of Curtis with him singing on the opening track “You’ll see horrors of a faraway place”

It saw a change in style a more electric fun approach in comparison to the bands 2005 ‘Lullabies To Paralyze’ album with lead singer Josh Homme saying the album was inspired by his drive through Hollywood, He says “Like dirt, clearly seen” with the title sounding like the vulgar era, which Homme found fitting, singing “Young, dumb, don’t see a problem”

The fifth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chilli Peppers, it is notably different to there previous works with little use of heavy metal guitar riffs. The theme of the album references to drugs, death, lust and exuberance, it incorporates sexual innuendos in the lyrics throughout the album. It also tackles the despair of the lead singers life at the time of recording, singing “The city I live in, The city of angels, lonely as I am, together we cry”
