Researching into traditional methods of print I looked at this book published by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it shows print work from contemporary and well known designers. The design of the book itself is composed in such a way that it looks to be screen print, though it isn't. There is a dot style through out to represent the style that screen print works. The Layout is very obscure and interesting, no two pages look the same.
Looking at the sizes of type on pages and how the colours could work in combinations. Looking at combinations in the size of type to how the design incorporates both upper case and lower case words to represent the point of something. The bright contrasting colours create bold clear designs, the colours will be a main point of the design I need to produce, I can create a design which is void of colour as I will be able to experiment with colour combinations during my time screen printing, though I will still experiment with the designs before getting that far.
This piece uses a few colours which overlap to form different shades and add a sense of depth to the image. The poster utilises the white space in that it leaves the title of the poster as a white patch in the bottom corner, an interesting technique which I would like to successfully utilise.
Another bold type based design, this is a very simple piece being just one colour screen print though the type face used and the strong colour makes it a nicely designed print. I could look at the choice of using simple design ideas in mine, such as only type or image and the use of as fewer colours as possible.
The use of blank space in this print is simple block shapes and could be produced in a number of colours , how they've produced an interesting design of a silhouette land scape on a rive and the way they have left blank space to show the different layers of the design. Again the simple use of two colours, is strong and affective and tells the story in its self.
With this image the use of texture is a main view point, with the picture looking as it has been hand painted and not screen printed, this roughness of the piece is something I want to produce in my designs as it is effective and adds character to work. I like the splattered marks in the back, it adds some brightness and a more creative look to this design.
The use of colour over laying an image to make it for example of the image above green and black. The image is recognisable but changes the mood or context of the original image.
