Money Subculture Research

Google defines subcultures as a group of people within a culture that differentiates itself from the larger culture to which it belongs. I decided to look at a modern part of english history something recent but collective. I first thought of using music or iconic musicians, as having looked at banknotes extensively I found that people trust a face on there bank notes, yet I felt that it would not be a strong idea just looking at something from my own interest I wanted to make it broader and more to do with english culture of modern times.

Subcultures of Britain-
Punk
MOD
rockers
Casuals
emo
Northern Soul
rude boy

I looked into the three main ones which are most commonly recognised as a part of modern history. Mods, Punk and Rockers.

Punk - The punk subculture, which centres on punk rock music, includes a diverse array of ideologies, fashions and forms of expression, including visual art, dance, literature and film. The subculture is largely characterized by anti-establishment views and the promotion of individual freedom.
The style of the movement is anarchy and rebellion, fighting against established order and monarchy, with band The Sex Pistols famous song God Save The Queen which mocks the queen and the monarchy, artist Jamie Reid commissioned a piece which is a defaced picture of Queen Elizabeth II, which is now seen as the most iconic art work of the punk movement. This movement was iconic for its music and fashion and was at its peak through the late seventies and eighties, punks were rebellious and anarchy enthusiasts.

MOD - Mod is a subculture that began in 1960s Britain and spread, in varying degrees, to other countries and continues today on a smaller scale. Mods were focused on music and fashion, the subculture has its origins in a small group of London-based stylish young men in the late 1950s who were termed modernists because they listened to modern jazz, although the movement spread to women to.
Mods were very music and fashion driven, with the style being suits and smart clothes during the start, yet the styles evolved through its revival in the late seventies and 80's. Mods were well known for there conflict with other subculture, rockers. Similar to the Northern soul movement and Rude boys.

Rockers- The rocker subculture was centred on motorcycling, and their appearance reflected that. This trend was started in the 1950's and was inspired by American popular music and films, with people like Elvis Presley being an iconic rocker.  The movement is known for its conflict with fellow subculture group Mods, which was heavily covered by the media, sparking fears about British youths, this lead the two subcultures to be known as folk devils (group of people who are portrayed in folklore or the media as outsiders and deviant, and who are blamed for crimes or other sorts of social problems)
