HANNAH HOCH & PHOTOMONTAGE

Hannah Hoch - Is a German Dada artist known for her collage and for being a pioneering female within the Dadaist movement. Hoch is one of the originators of photomontage, Hoch gathered images and text from popular forms of media, such as newspapers and magazines, and combined them to form obscure imagery this was voice her opinions about social and political issues of the time, the images were sourced from news papers and magazines. Her techniques and style were seen as leftist and revolutionary within her times, her work critiqued the mass culture beauty industry. Dadaism is known for its political messages, Hoch's work 'Cut with the Kitchen Knife through the Last Weimar Beer-belly Cultural Epoch in Germany, 1919, comments on societies patriarchy, combining photos of political leaders, sports stars and Dada artists.  


RAOUL HAUSSMANN

Raoul Haussmann - Hausmann was an Austrian artist who was another key figure in the Dada movement using photomontage techniques similar to Hoch's. Haussmann also experimented with pictograms and sound poems, which he called 'phonemes' or poster-poems where he would take poems cut them up and print them in new orders. Haussmann was one of the main organisers of the first international Dada Fair in 1920 which though financially unsuccessful gained Dada coverage in major world cities.




TRACEY MA & BLOOMBERG BUSINESSWEEK

Tracey Ma - Ma is a graphic designer with a range of skills such as illustration, web design, animation all of which she applies into her design. Ma is an avid contributor of cover art work for business publication 'Bloomberg Businessweek', which is an American business periodical and online news and opinion outlet, her physical edition covers are playful and often bright and off the cuff, the styles she uses on the covers are very un-like business magazines and her unique style has gained her wide recognition. Ma uses type in ornamental ways to put across the themes and topics within her art, this type is usually accompanied by bright colours or bold, images with both visual strength and message. Working on a business periodical her work ventures in to political grounds, exploring the economy, social and business politics and often pop culture, these are topics which Ma works with in her other projects and personal pieces.
