Looking at the original bookmark style and uses in its original physical form, always used as a page marker and place holder in a book, looking for influence in the traditional bookmarks to inspire the design of the modern web based version. Penguin books release a number of bookmark sets each new season always with a new design to it, Penguin regularly stick to using there iconic orange colour used in there logo. With 'Google Bookmark' the identity should represent Googles branding, especially through the icon which will represent it, the colours and shape should show that it is a product of google while also being new and easily recognisable.
Penguin Random House UK launched a campaign to celebrate LGBTQ authors past, present and future, the campaign included a set of bookmarks that represented LGBTQ pride through colours and also quotes from books of LGBTQ authors. The mixture of colours is eye catching, bold and friendly, for the icon for 'Google Bookmark' it should employ the 4 main colours which feature on the google logo and title ( Yellow, Red, Blue and Green).
This bookmark was produced by Penguin to promote that they now offer audio books, the target audience for this was Penguin book readers and book lovers in general, to make them more aware, the pause was to represent that to bookmark an audio book is to pause it, so they made a physical representation of it. The see through style allows reader to continue to view the content of the page while the bookmark is there, this can be emulated to be a feature on 'Google Bookmark' by bookmarking websites using a small icon to represent the page has been bookmarked yet it doesn't interfere with anything on the page.
