Jumbo Records. Concept Forming. OUGD504

Jumbo records is Leeds city centres largest music store, with a huge selection of vinyl, CD's and cassettes. Jumbo opened in 1971 and today holds the same values of supplying music in all its forms, the shop has since moved locations but the aesthetic is still that of a 70s record store, with a sound room to listen to LP's before you buy, this room is full of concert posters and flyers, taking some photographs of this part of the store for research helped give a different view of how to display posters other than billboard and pasting poles, the shop also donated a large pile of old gig posters to help with the project, this helped form a concept of collecting concert posters for the contents of the project rather than photographing the posters in place on walls and in windows (This concept is also inspired by the research into poster books).

With this concept, it was clear that for the concept to work the contents had to be collected and rounded up from multiple sources for a wide range of visuals, this meant emailing a number of music venues and shops throughout Leeds in hope to get more posters, this was key to making the publication work.
