I needed to contact the various venues and bars to ask for music posters and fliers which they were not using and were outdated, this was easier than to ask for current ones as the current ones would still be being used for advertising the up and coming. Preparing an email explaining who I was and what the project was about whilst also keeping the email small enough to be simply read and responded to proved difficult, many of the businesses contacted did not respond or had not any posters available other than the ones up in the bar or digital copies of the posters, though grateful the concept of the book was to use hard copies of the posters to get the creases and the character which can be seen when a poster is up on a wall. Emailing over 15 places for the content, including;
- Crash rcords
- Jumbo Records
- Wharf chambers
- the key club
- Leeds o2 Academy
- First Direct Arena
- LS6 Cafe
- Belgrave
- Brudenell social Club
- Headrow House
- The wardrobe
- Leeds Uni Stylus
- Brotherhood
- Opera North
- Leeds city Varieties
- Nation of shopkeepers
- Hi-Fi club
- Oporto
- The Fenton
- The Duck and Drake
Trying to get a wide range of different genres and artistically different posters meant the search had to be wide, this could prove difficult with a time period of six weeks, many places could take weeks to get a response from.
UPDATED
Getting responses from some of the places contacted meant that the publication could go ahead and as time went on the content grew, unfortunately due to time management many posters I acquired could not be used as production had begun on the publication but with the extra content I have more fuel to possibly reprint or create a volume two to follow on.
The screen shots below show the emails sent to the bars and businesses, including some responses from them.
Though not getting replies from the majority there were a few replies which were extremely useful, and others which were not, for example wharf chambers replied but could not give me physical copies of the posters while the response I got from Opera North was incredibly useful, receiving the reply above from Creative designer for Opera North, Neil Armstrong, who offered to meet and discuss my project and also get posters for the project to, the unfortunate thing was that the meeting took place when production on the publication had begun and I was unable to put the posters given to me into the publication though the meeting was very interesting (See OUGD501)
