- Etta James - 'At Last'
-The Jam - 'Art School'
- Chvrches - 'Clearest Blue'
- Tame Impala - 'The Less I Know The Better'
- Max Richer - 'Dream 3'
- John Lennon - 'Imagine'
- Jack Garrat - 'Worry'
Having Listened to them all, I am initially drawn to Etta James 'At last' and John Lennon's 'Imagine' the latter being a song I have admired for years and am a big fan of. Currently I am really into soul music and sixties movements which is why I am drawn to Etta James debut single 'At LAst' Yet having listened to all the songs I have realised tame impala take a lot of inspiration from this era and can also work. I initially want to produce a set for a number of the songs but if production and time become an issue my main priority is the Etta James hit.
Etta James - was a blues, soul jazz, r and b and rock singer born in America in 1938. She released her genre spanning debut album in 1960 titled 'At Last' the song of the same name featured on this album and was to become a hit for her, though only originally reaching second in the chart at the time. The album was released as a rhythm and blues record yet it splits opinions and is now thought of as a genre spanning record.
'At Last' was originally written in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren, performed originally by Glen Miller and his orchestra. Though as an orchestra piece, the song was brought to full fame through James' version in 1960.
Tame Impala - Australian rock band formed in 2007, there third studio album features the song 'The Less I Know The Better.' A song about a break up between two teens from the view of the boy who wants to get over the girl, it covers the full confusion and hurt of a young heart break yet still remains an upbeat hit and a really good beat. The music is so easy to get into as it is a relaxing funky beat, having been a fan of tame Impala I would love to just focus on this song, but I feel that it is going to be a popular choice for all who enter the competition as it is the most expressing and interesting in my opinion. The music is rock yet with synth to create a funky beat. The vocals are high pitched and soft.
John Lennon - Released october 1971'Imagine' is the most successful post Beatles track of Lennon's career. Coming under the soft rock / pop genre it is a powerful piano ballad which encourages world peace and a strong message of love and not war. It tries to imagine a utopia world were there is no war and just love.
